Lleswyl 2023: The Programme

Format of the evening: the evening is full of variety, fast moving and diverse. Fabulous short sets by great bands, and lots of different types of music too. At times in the evening we are engaging with inspirational people living with illness and showcasing the work of the charities that support their patient community. Our wonderful team of presenters will be on the sofa, introducing live guests as well as the acts, bringing the whole evening to life for you. The presenters will have live BSL interpretation.

19:00 Sing with Us Choir (Tenovus Cancer Care): Make Your Own Kind Of Music

19:03 Welcome by our presenters Sian Lloyd and Jason Harrold.

19:05 Let’s get the party started with Soul Lotta Funk – Party Band! They will get us all in the mood withJohnny Be Goode’ and ‘Proud Mary’.

19:11 ‘Sofa chat’ with Barbara Chidgey, founder and Chair of Daring to Dream – What is Daring to Dream all about, how did it all begin, what does it do and why is it important?

19:15 Alli Gemini and her co-writer and pianist, Gabrielle Ebbens perform Alli’s own indie pop tracks of ‘Wings’, ‘Beautiful Lady’ and ‘Cariad yw Cymru’.

19:25 ‘Sofa Chat’ with Barbara Chidgey– how Daring to Dream’s work is supporting the emotional health of those living with illness, including two short videos. The first shows some of the charity’s completed projects. The second is a specially arranged version of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’, ‘Our Story’, describing what the charity stands for, what it is like living with illness, what we do at Daring to Dream and how you can help and get involved.

19:40 Introducing Innovate Trust, partners, and sponsors of Lleswyl, hearing of their work in supporting so many people living with disabilities across the UK. We also hear from some of their members: Richie, Nicole, Phil, Grahame, and Fran.

19:47 Dr Chris Gough, ICU clinician at University Hospital of Wales introduces the ICU Liberty Singers, with their arrangement “Every breath you take (we watch over you)”

19:52 Introducing the incredible Cwm Taf Morgannwg Regional Partnership Board’s ‘Hear Our Voices’ project that captured the views and feelings of nearly 1200 of their residents across Bridgend, RCT and Merthyr. Residents who live with or alongside illness or disability. They then expressed their views via an Arts project, creating poetry, music, and drama with a group of talented artists.

19:55 The Hear Our Voices band (Maddie, Cat, and Tobias) perform the beautiful tracks: ‘Here with Me’, ‘Different’, ‘Walk in our Shoes’, ‘Strength Enough / Digon Cyf’ (Indie folk)

20:10 Kindness and how it supports emotional health of those living with or alongside illness or disability.

The Hear Our Voices band perform the haunting track ‘Caredigwrydd – Kindness’ followed by a poem produced by the ‘Voices’ project, of the same name.

20:16 ‘Sofa Chat’ with Jo Popham, CEO, Popham Kidney Foundation. We also show a short video highlighting how PKF support people living with chronic kidney conditions practically and emotionally, including support given via crafting groups. One of their mentors also shares her love of poetry.

20:23 Ify Iwobi Live Band Ify Iwobi is a Wales born & bred, Award Winning Welsh/Nigerian Contemporary Pianist, Songwriter, Composer and Producer. She and her Live Band perform three of her tracks: ‘Better than That’, ‘Falling for you’,  and ‘Love Rhapsody’.

20:35 A thank you to Cardiff & Vale UHB teams from Daring to Dream. This is followed by Ify Iwobi’s personal tribute ‘We won’t forget’. Ify wrote this in honour of those who worked on the frontline through the pandemic and also to remember all those who have lost their lives.

20:40 ‘Sofa Chat’ with Dr Nav Masani (Consultant Cardiologist at University Hospital of Wales and trustee of Daring to Dream) and Neil Hopper (Vascular Surgeon at the Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust and Patron of Daring to Dream).

20:47 Lleswyl 2023 welcomes the incredible Welsh Ballroom Community with their show. If you have not seen voguing, this is a must for you!

20:57: Dance for Parkinson’s with the kind permission of the National Dance Company Wales

21:03 Introducing the Forget Me Not Chorus charity and choirs, who bring the joy of singing to those living with and alongside of dementia.

21:10 ‘Sofa Chat’ Dr Clive Jackson, of Dr and the Medics joins Sian & Jase on the sofa. Dr and the Medics were part of our very first Lleswyl and it will be great to catch up with Clive (the doctor) and reprise ‘Spirit in the Sky’!

21:15 Sinfonia Cymru introduce their String Quartet. Don’t miss them as they play three Welsh rock classics ‘Dakota’ (Stereophonics), Mercy (Duffy). and ‘Holding out for a Hero’ (Bonnie Tyler). You will just love their classical twist on these tracks!

21:30 ‘Sofa Chat’ with Clive and a sneaky peak at the new release from Dr & the Medics.

21:35 Tenovus Cancer Care a wonderful video that highlights their incredible support work for those living with cancer and their families. The video again features their Sing with Us Choir, some of whom tell their stories and sing some more of ‘Make your own kind of music.’ With thanks too to ITV Wales.

21:40 Afro Cluster What’s not to love with their glorious afro beat, jazz, and rap combo? Back by popular demand, their play list is ‘Criminal’, ‘Foot to the Floor’ and ‘Back into work’.

21:52 Youth@Heart and Georgia Close, an incredible artist from Monmouthshire. This is a short film that is a must-watch.

22:00 Emilie Parry-Williams & Thomas Mottershead sing songs from the musicals. You are in for a real treat! Tom and Emilie were part of Tom Jones’ #TeamTom in Voice UK 2022. They bring to you ‘Tonight’ (Westside Story), ‘Think of Me’ (Phantom), ‘You’ll Be Back’ (Hamilton), ‘Bring Him Home’ (Les Mis).

22:15 A sing-along session with Soul Lotta Funk. Covers of the classic hits of Neil Diamond, Van Morrison and ABBA with ‘Sweet Caroline’, ‘Have I told you lately that I love you?’ and ‘Mama Mia’.

22:27 The final ‘Sofa Chat’ of the night with Barbara Chidgey, as we reflect and thank everyone and look forward to new projects for Daring to Dream.

 22:30 Soul Lotta Funk play us out with ‘Oh, what a night!’
