Yesterday was a fantastic day when Daring to Dream – the Emotional Health Charity pulled together a brand-new Space to Talk in Princess of Wales Hospital and created a dayroom for the elderly patients in Trauma and Orthopaedic. Yes!

With the support of 2 of the Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board Estates Team and Rachael Gidney, furniture was unpacked; TV, pictures, a mirror and a clock were placed around the walls, and the room rearranged to be accessible but friendly and welcoming. Definitely non-clinical!

So many staff popped their head in the door, with big smiles on their faces, saying:
‘This is fantastic – exactly what are our patients have been needing! A space away from the bedside to socialise, have private family time, simply have some quiet time on their own, and also a space for the medical staff to chat about clinical matters privately too.’

We are holding a small but important Celebration event on 28 October – to share the news and the joy!

When we are a patient in hospital for a number of weeks, fellow patients, the staff who care for us – they become our #community.
