The Board of Daring to Dream is recruiting a Deputy Chair

This is a critical and exciting time for Daring to Dream as it develops into a resilient and sustainable organisation.

To help us into this step change, the board is seeking to recruit a trustee who will be a Deputy Chair, working closely with our founder / Chair, Barbara Chidgey as a step towards her transitioning towards becoming a founder trustee.

Please contact Barbara directly for the recruitment pack on

Daring to Dream is the Emotional Health Charity supporting the emotional health of adults in Wales living with illness.
Daring to Dream are leaders in the field of emotional health and its significance in living well with physical illness.

The importance of our work:

48% of all adults in Wales live with at least one long term illness.

That is 1.2 million of us.

  • Illness affects us all emotionally and not just physically
  • Frequently, our emotional needs are overlooked

Research demonstrates clearly that addressing our emotional wellbeing and talking about our feelings arising from illness has:

  • A positive impact on our physical recovery
  • Enables us to lead a happier and more fulfilling life, even with chronic illness.
  • And is likely to reduce the risk of us developing also a mental illness.

To thrive, and not just survive

To thrive, and not just survive, with illness, we need both clinical care and emotional support. We receive that all important and much appreciated clinical care but frequently, our emotional needs are overlooked.

  • This is the gap or need that Daring to Dream aims to address.

We address this gap by:

Making ‘Spaces to Talk’ in hospitals – These non-clinical ‘safe spaces’ in Quiet Rooms, Relatives’ Rooms, and Dayrooms within the ward area provide essential private space for patients, their families, and staff to have important conversations during vulnerable times; our rooms offer a safe ‘space to talk’ to share feelings, offer comfort, and to hear and discuss clinical advice, to take time out, for tears.

Creating ‘Spaces to Sing’ in hospitals with live music to boost emotions, evoke memories, initiate conversations and connect people socially. Lleswyl, our annual live streamed well-being festival is our huge ‘Space to Sing and Talk’ and is a wonderful mix of great music and powerful conversation.

Being a trustee with Daring to Dream

Nav Masani, one of our founding trustees and our Clinical Lead, and John Chown, our treasurer, talk about being a trustee with us:

Nav asks ‘Could you become a trustee of Daring to Dream?’
