Daring to Dream (with our thanks to The Pituitary Foundation and Kidney Wales) is bringing a great new challenge to our event calendar for 2022, a Fire walk.
A thrilling challenge that will involve walking bare foot across a strip of burning wood embers, 20ft long, heated around 800 degrees. No tricks, no special effects. Just you and the fire.
The Fire walk will take place on Friday Friday 1st July 2022.
The entry fee is £25, and we don’t ask for a minimum sponsorship, we simply ask that you try to raise as much as you possibly can. You will be provided with a fundraising pack, and our full support to help you successfully reach your fundraising target. You must be 16yrs or older to take part, however, under 18’s need permission from a parent or guardian who must attend on the day.
Funds raised by this campaign will help us transform the Quiet Room in Nephrology at University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.
Part of what we do as a charity to support the emotional health and wellbeing of patients is to create safe, comfortable, comforting, and non-clinical spaces in different clinical areas. Rooms that do not feel or look like ‘hospital rooms’ but offer comfort and a space to catch up with family, to talk with clinicians including for those really tough discussions about end of life.
To do this we collaborate with different clinical areas to transform:
- Patient dayrooms on wards
- Relatives’ Rooms
- Quiet Rooms
Pre-event safety workshop:
Prior to taking on the walk, each participant will need to take part in a safety workshop led by the founder of Time4Change Cliff Mann. With over 20 years’ experience as a firewalking instructor, Cliff has led thousands of people from all walks of life over those hot coals. He has witnessed the sense of achievement you will feel once you’ve taken those steps.
“It’s just you and the fire. All of your survival instincts are telling you to stay where it’s safe, don’t take the risk. The decision to walk across the coals is life-changing, not because of the Firewalk itself, but because you have consciously decided not to let fear inhibit you. After all, if you can walk across hot coals, what else is possible?”
