Friday 13 June at Hilton Cardiff was a wonderful evening, as we wished
Engaging, happy, full of warmth and kindness, strengthening ‘old’ relationships, starting new ones, raising awareness, and raising funds.
Importantly celebrating Amy Penn’s life and legacy with her family.
Daring to Dream taking another huge step forward.
Hosted by the fabulous Jason Harrold Host and Compere, with the amazing Choirs For Good Cardiff, we all enjoyed an excellent meal, good company and our auction, which created lots of bidding and buying!
The emotional needs of young adults living with illness
The evening included different contributions including one with Barbara Chidgey, Dr Lisa Cordery-Bruce and Ireuwola Egbetola, in which we highlighted the emotional needs of young adults living with illness.
Ire spoke passionately about the emotionally and practically challenging transition from paediatric to adult care, which is something that Amy frequently spoke up about too and advocated for serious change and support.
We talked of the need to create spaces to talk for younger adults, our fundraising focus for the night
Our tribute to Amy
Dr Dirk Wilson, consultant paediatric cardiologist and Dr Nav Masani, consultant adult cardiologist and clinical lead for Daring to Dream, who between then led Amy’s clinical care over her life, spoke with such warmth, good memories and humour about Amy, her advocacy, her joy for living and her smile. Nav focused on her influence and how Amy has inspired us to take the charity forward.
Funds raised
We are delighted to let you know we have raised just over £6,000 (once all costs have been paid) to help us make spaces to talk for young adults living with illness in Wales!!
Our sincere thanks go to:
Everyone who joined us on the night, who donated, bought raffle tickets and successfully bid for an auction lot.
Our event management assistants (Gaynor, Sarah and Valeria) who did the event management and to Hilton Cardiff for their care.
Thank you to our sponsors CENIN, Bevan Buckland LLP, Cobalt HR and to all the many organisations who donated raffle prizes and auction lots.
Amy, it was a real privilege to know you
Your amazing smile, zest for life and living and determination to speak up about the emotional needs of young adults living with heart disease and be a voice for them.
You inspired us to take our mission forward with belief, commitment, so that as well as supporting young adults with heart disease Daring to Dream will extend its support to every young adult, whatever their illness.
