We are so pleased that Cobalt HR selected our live music project in the #CarefortheElderlyWards at #PrincessofWalesHospital Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board for their #generousdonation of £300.
That donation is the cost of a full afternoon of live music, led by two professional musicians, across each of the three wards, for the patients.

Daring to Dream obtained a £1,850 grant from Tŷ Cerdd – Music Centre Wales, to pilot live music across those three wards. All regulatory requirements have been put in place and we successfully completed those first five afternoons of live music.

We are now determined to extend this music project; for now, have moved the sessions fortnightly (instead of weekly), seeking more funding session by session.
We are working with a number of musicians, each of whom are highly talented and experienced, many of whom also have much experience of playing in hospitals and care homes. This approach gives us great musicians and flexibility and variety for patients too.
Patients and staff love them:
“We had a lovely response from the groups today, with requests ranging from Elton John to the Sound of Music to the Blues Brothers. One man was dancing lying down and another was singing along to the Beatles songs we played.”
“Songs from older musicals and from 40s-70s went down well. General consensus that the old music is the best music! One lady said that although she was looking forward to leaving hospital she didn’t want to go home and miss the next session, and that she wished music could come to her house!”
Everyone agreed that TV was rubbish compared to getting together for the live music, and some of the nurses on Ward 18 told us how much their patients had been looking forward to it.”
“There have been some lovely moments too for relatives when they have seen their loved one more engaged than they had for a long time.”
