At the final Leading Wales Awards & Legacy Dinner in September 2019, we formally launched the new charitable fund, Daring to Dream, which is part of the legacy of the Awards.

Sophie Howe (Future Generations Commissioner for Wales and the fund’s first patron) together with Dr Nav Masani (Assistant Medical Director and Consultant Cardiologist from Cardiff & Vale University Health Board) both spoke eloquently, persuasively and with much compassion.

They outlined from their personal and professional perspectives, the huge importance of meeting the psychological needs of patients whilst they are going through physical illness, as well as coping with the physical impact of the treatments also.

Sophie Howe, Future Generations Commissioner for Wales, and the fund’s first patron said “Being in this room full of leaders and hearing their individual stories from across Wales fills me with inspiration and hope for the future generations. It is only fitting that the legacy of the awards is this wonderful charity that I am privileged to be the first Patron for.

Daring to Dream will provide services and facilities such as hairdressing, reflexology, mindfulness and singing groups for patients and more comfortable facilities for relatives to support the wider wellbeing of people who often have long stays in hospital. We cannot underestimate the importance of some of these softer things in keeping up morale and helping people to get better.”

Donations collected on the night exceeded £1800! We were delighted with the generosity of everyone present. This money was invested immediately into the project to refurbish and refurnish the C3 Corridor Relatives’ and Quiet Rooms, creating more comfortable and comforting spaces for those supporting their loved ones during the toughest of times.
