Patient day rooms and Quiet Rooms

1. Cardiac Care Day Unit (CCDU) patients’ room in the Cardiothoracic Directorate
As we move into the coming months of the pandemic, patients will again mostly not be able to have visitors. This will mean that the Day Room on a ward becomes even more important; an excuse to stretch the legs, have a coffee, eat at a proper table, and watch TV on a large screen.
Therefore, our next fundraising project is to refurnish and refurbish the Cardiac Care Day Unit (CCDU) patients’ room in the Cardiothoracic Directorate at University Hospital of Wales. Working once again with John Lewis & Partners Home Design Team, we have a great design for a room that is comfortable, welcoming, and safe.
2. General Surgery (Ward C7) Patient & Family Room
At the same time Ward C7 (Surgery) is in desperate need for furniture for a dedicated room for patients and families at the moment so they can have privacy and feel comfortable in their surroundings. This would impact hugely on the patient experience and the family experience especially if bad news is being given. In a private setting the family and patients may well feel more able to ask additional direct questions and hopefully feel more relaxed.
C7 was turned into a temporary COVID ward earlier this year. Now back with Surgery, the room they wish to use as a patient and family room had been an essential changing room for staff so that they could don and doff their PPE and keep everyone safe. So, at the moment it is a room of lockers. We have promised to refurnish!
3. Refurbishment of T1 Quiet Room in the Cardiothoracic Directorate’s Outpatient Department
During outpatient appointments, having a comforting room to discuss medical and surgical interventions with patients and their relatives is essential. The room needs a functioning TV screen to also be able to show diagrams and short films to aid the understanding of potentially complicated information. Conversations like this are also scary to patients and their loved ones; it is difficult coming to terms with coping with essential but invasive interventions.
4. Refurbishment of patient dayroom on Ward B1 (Cardiothoracic Directorate)
In the Spring of 2021, we shall be fundraising to refurnish and refurbish the Patients’ Day Room on ward B1 in the Cardiothoracic Directorate at University
Hospital of Wales.
Working once again with John Lewis & Partners Home Design Team, we already have a great design for a room that is comfortable, welcoming, and safe.
